Sony Pictures wants the Gran Turismo film to feel like a highway to the danger zone. Director Neill Blomkamp has touted the physicality and stunts in the upcoming car thriller, taking a page from Top Gun: Maverick.

Speaking with, Blomkamp said Gran Turismo features "real actors, in real cars, on real race tracks, driving insanely quickly." But the director, who previously helmed Chappie and Elysium, also wants the video game film to focus on characters, too.

"The north star for me was to make a video game title with character work that propels the movie, even more so than the racing," said Blomkamp. "Although the racing is bloody intense, too."
