Production has begun on Season 2 of House of the Dragon. The series, based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the story of House Targaryen.

Ryan Condal, co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of House of the Dragon, expressed his excitement for the series' return, stating, "We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera."

The cast for Season 2 of House of the Dragon includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans, with returning cast members from Season 1. Milly Alcock and Emily Carey, who portrayed the younger versions of Rhaenyra and Alicent respectively in the first half of season 1, will not be reprising their roles in the upcoming season. Condal confirmed this to last fall, stating that the characters are not part of the story being told in the upcoming season, at least for now.
