In the show, Billy lost his ability to connect to the Morphing Grid after an explosion in the Power Chamber, while Zack transferred his power over to Adam (Johnny Yong Bosch, who also makes a cameo in the special) and Kat gave her Turbo Key to Cassie (Patricia Ja Lee). A new clip released from the official Power Rangers Twitter account explains how they become Rangers again and in typical Power Ranger fashion, it boils down to Billy experimenting with the Power.
In the quick clip, Billy and Alpha-5--who is giant compared to his former self--tell Zack, Rocky, and Kat that they made Power Coins as a contingency plan. The coins are tied to the Grid, but not directly, and are able to channel Dino Power. Zack is hesitant as he says that Zordon talked about the dangers of using active powers and Kat mentions that too much pink energy is dangerous--something they've explained in the show
