The Super Mario Bros. Movie continues to soar at the box office,. But how far can it go? said the film should crack $1 billion before its run in theaters ends, and if it does, it will join a select few animated films at that level.

Only 10 animated movies have ever made $1 billion or more, a list topped by 2019's The Lion King remake ($1.66 billion)--though not everyone agrees that it is an "animated" film considering its photo-realistic graphics. Not counting that movie, Disney's Frozen II tops the charts with $1.45 billion, followed by Frozen ($1.28 billion), Incredibles 2 ($1.24 billion), and Minions ($1.16 billion).

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will also become just the third movie--of any kind--during the pandemic era to pass $1 billion if it can climb that high. It would join Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.92 billion) and Top Gun: Maverick ($1.49 billion).
